Four checks exposed the truth
- VIN verification revealed a mismatch. The dashboard VIN was one number, the driver's-side door-jamb sticker was missing, and the engine-bay VIN did not match the dashboard.
- Registration documents confirmed the problem. The documents matched the dashboard VIN, but the engine-bay VIN was different—indicating the engine bay or front of the vehicle may have been replaced.
